A set of files with annoying strange characters in their file-names.

 

We need to rename them with the right characters.

 

How to do it

Press Identify problems.

 

The list of possible "problems"

This list shows all files with possible problem characters highlighted.

 

This section of the program shows a number of possible problems. You can add more using the button with +. Ignore any combinations that are perfectly OK. (The program ignores some ordinary alphabetical characters (A to Z, numbers and a few punctuation marks but will highlight others.)

To fix a problem

Click the Fix column. That makes the list below scroll to the file-name showing the possible problem. You get a chance to edit the problem:

 

Here a simple apostrophe will probably be suitable to replace the strange accented a plus euro symbol + trade mark symbol.

 

Save corrected file-names

Press this button to check your results. The first press offers to change all the items you have edited.

 

After the test run, lots of problems are solved but some remain (I only edited 3).

 

Once you are ready to save the corrected results permanently, press the Save corrected filenames button again.
