Burstiness

Burstiness uses

the mean gap in tokens between hits

user-selected minimum gap percentage (of the total range of tokens in the text)

user-selected minimum number of members of a burst

If a text has 1000 tokens and the min. gap percentage is 5% that's 50 tokens. The calculation finds a gap larger than 50 words and counts how many succeeding hits appear within 1/3 of that distance from each other (16 words in this case). If the minimum members of a burst is 4 and 4 or more are found within 16 words, we get a burst. The burstiness of an entry is the total number of such bursts.

Peakiness

Peakiness uses the standard deviation of the proportion of hits to word count in each period of a time-line.
